E24 on a Bosch dishwasher is a drainage code: the machine ran its drain cycle and the water did not leave fast enough, so it stopped and flagged the fault. It is closely related to E22 and E25 in the same family, and the causes are the same drain path. The reassuring part is that the most common cause, a clogged filter, is designed to be concise to clear.
Clear the Drain Path in Order
Start with the filter in the base of the tub, remove it and rinse away the food and grease that collect there. Below it, check the sump for debris and glass. Behind the machine, make sure the drain hose is not kinked or clogged, and check the sink side for a blocked air gap or a garbage disposer whose drain knockout was never removed. Finally, the drain pump can jam on a hard object.
| Cause | How to Check | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Clogged filter | Twist out and inspect | Rinse and refit |
| Debris in sump | Look below the filter | Clear it out |
| Kinked or clogged hose | Check behind the machine | Straighten or clear |
| Blocked air gap or disposer | Check the sink side | Clear the air gap or knockout |
| Jammed drain pump | Object in the impeller | Clear the pump |
When to Call
If the filter, hose, and sink connection are clear and E24 returns, the drain pump or a control fault needs testing, which is a technician job. Our Bosch maintenance guide covers filter care that prevents E24, and our E15 guide covers the anti-flood system.
