What We Fix

An ice maker is a small refrigeration system with a plumbing problem attached, and both halves have to work. Boulder's mineral-rich water is hard on ice equipment: scale builds on the evaporator plate, narrows the fill path, and slowly starves the harvest. We repair built-in refrigerator ice makers and dedicated ice machines alike.

  • Built-in refrigerator ice makers and dispensers
  • Standalone clear-ice and nugget machines (Scotsman and comparable)
  • Water inlet valves, supply lines, and filter housings
  • Harvest modules, thermostats, and ejector assemblies
  • Water pumps and distribution tubes on clear-ice machines
  • Evaporator plate descaling and hard-water cleaning
  • Drain pumps and float switches on gravity and pumped drains

Common Problems We See

  • No ice at all. A closed inlet valve, a frozen line, or a module that never calls for a fill.
  • Ice bin freezes into a block. A leaking valve dribbling water, or a harvest that stalls part-way.
  • Hollow or cloudy cubes. Low fill volume or scale on the plate on a clear-ice unit.
  • Small or slow production. Scale-choked water path or a weak pump.
  • Water on the floor. A cracked line, an overflowing bin, or a blocked drain.

Typical Causes

Most no-ice calls are a water-delivery problem, not a dead compressor. A water inlet valve that will not open fully, a saddle-valve or filter clogged with sediment, or a line frozen where it runs cold will all leave the machine cycling with nothing to freeze. On clear-ice machines the culprit is often scale: Boulder's hardness plates out on the evaporator and in the pump until harvests turn hollow and cloudy. We test water pressure and volume at the valve, inspect the plate, and descale as part of the repair so the fix lasts.

Hard water is the quiet killer. A yearly descale and a fresh filter keep an ice machine producing full, clear cubes far longer than running it until it clogs. We can set that up when we visit.

Brands We Service

We service ice makers built into Sub-Zero refrigeration and standalone machines from Scotsman, True Residential, Thermador, and other high-end lines. See the full brands list.

Ice Maker Repair FAQ

My Ice Maker Stopped Filling with Water. What Causes That?
A no-fill ice maker usually comes down to the water inlet valve, a frozen or kinked supply line, a clogged filter, or the module and its thermostat not calling for a fill. We check water pressure at the valve first, then work back through the module, so we replace the part that actually failed.
Why Is My Ice Cloudy or Hollow?
Cloudy or hollow cubes point to a low or intermittent fill, a partially blocked water line, or scale from Boulder's hard water on the evaporator plate. On a clear-ice machine, a dirty plate or a failing water pump is the common cause. Descaling and a fresh filter often restore normal cubes.
Do You Service Standalone Clear-Ice Machines?
Yes. We repair built-in refrigerator ice makers and standalone clear-ice and nugget machines, including Scotsman and comparable units, with OEM valves, pumps, and modules, plus a full descale for hard-water buildup.
